I had an ouzo and feta with olives. There was a Greek music nonstop. Wooden tables with lanterns. Stylish mix of traditional tavern spirit and modern design. I like everything!
As I dashed in to Taverna from the pouring rain, the warm welcome I received immediately set the tone. It was the beginning of a wonderful dining out in Moncton. For many years I'd frequented Greek restaurants in Vancouver, BC., and so I could compare. No hesitation, I give full marks to Chef 'Billy', kitchen manager, bro Dimitry 'Jimmy' and the engaging serving staff at Taverna. The food is quality - what I was searching for in Moncton - and clearly scores high. Imagine my delight when Chef Billy asked if I'd try his new offering, Musaka, which I love & which he'd just prepared. I hadn't even wanted to ask for this delicious entree as it requires extended time to prepare various layers & this was lunch time). My take; a little twigging in spice makes his Musaka perfect. And for being the test subject, I enjoyed a fresh baklava. Thanks Jill for the outstanding coffee! And gratitude goes to all staff for friendliness and giving me an exceptional dining experience. For its quality food, service & fine decor, I'm recommending Taverna to my friends, . Ah! So happy to find Taverna in Moncton! I'll certainly be returning!
Celebrated my husband’s 60th birthday here it was our first time dining and wow, we were so impressed. We will definitely be back! The ambiance was wonderful. We were seated on the second floor which was nice and cozy. They had Greek videos playing and nice music. We had some delicious cocktails, shared a nice Greek Sauvignon Blanc bottle of wine, some appetizers ( I recommend ordering the tzatziki which comes with warm pitas, you can then keep some for your main meal), and ordered some souvlakis, chicken brochettes, salads and they gave my husband their orange cake for his birthday dessert. Excellent friendly service! We loved this place and it was super busy which is a great sign. Our new favourite restaurant in Moncton!
Craving Greek food because we have none in PEI and randomly discovered this place! OPA! We hit the jackpot! Immediately impressed with the mythological modern decor. The menu was great except I noticed no moussaka. The owner said a vegetarian one is in the works. Good idea! Instantly felt appreciated as a customer—so friendly and caring here. First came complimentary pita and that went excellent with our wine. Had the pastitsio and it didn’t disappoint—the béchamel was lusciously high and so meaty. My spouse had the souvlaki, rice and Greek potatoes and was impressed. Loved the music too. Please open up a resto in PEI guys!
What an awesome visit. The staff were very easy to get along with and the atmosphere was modern and cozy. The food was delicious and lots of Greek flavors that we looked forward to. The meals were cooked perfectly and decent portions too. This will be our new go to place while we are in Moncton. Can't wait to return.
10/10!!! Absolutely incredible!!! Went there with a group of friends for my birthday and we were greeted with a warm welcome and lovely smiles from all of the staff! The service was amazing and the food was to die for! The decor was lovely and the ambiance was great! I absolutely loved my experience at Taverna and I definitely will be coming back in the future!
TAVERNA is a beautiful addition to downtown. Our waitress was attentive and personable. The food was delicious & it was recommended to try the Loukaniko as an appetizer— best thing I have EVER eaten! Only thing I regret was not saving room for dessert.
10 outta 10 INCREDIBLE RESTAURANT!! We love trying new, & local restaurants. Came from Saint John, and searched up greek restaurants. Came across this restaurant and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! We were greeted with smiles & warmth. Waitress took our drink order, and kindly suggested the beer from Greece. HECK YES! It was delicious. Ordered an appetizer, and it came quickly. Tzatziki & pita - perfect! My husband & I both ordered Slovakia chicken with potatoes, rice & Greek salad. The Greek dressing was so tasty. They really should bottle that stuff & sell it. While waiting for our meal, the owner came over & said that they over cooked the chicken skewer, and it would be another 6-7 minutes as they were cooking new ones. He then came over with a different Greek beer, and poured us a glass and said it was on the house. Stating he apologized for the wait - and we didn’t even feel as though we had waited long. Service was top notch. Food was incredible, and we will be back! This is now my fav restaurant in Moncton. Job well done!!! WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!
I've had the privilege to eat here twice now, and both times I was blown away at how delicious the food was. My fiancé and I each take an appetizer and a main, and share half of the whole meal. This gave us the chance to try 4 appetizers and 3 mains. The lamb chops were heavenly, we had to reorder them the 2nd visit. We are foodies, and appreciate good food. This is by far, hands down, the best restaurant we've been to in Moncton. I can tell that the owners take pride in the food they serve. The service has always been lovely. And the atmosphere and decor are really nice. The bathrooms are so nice, I hope they paid their designer well LOL
I have been fortunate enough to have visited Greece, Crete and Rhodes when I wore a younger man's clothes. The experience I have every time I eat at Taverna takes me straight back there. The food is absolutely authentic, beautifully presented and prepared. The decor and ambience is wonderful and even the bathroom's are so clean and beautifully designed. Matthew, our waiter, has been A1 with his recommendations, politeness, service, attentiveness and friendliness. It it a combination of all of these things that keeps us coming back time after time and loving our experience there.
Beautiful, newly opened restaurant and bar located right on Main st. Taverna was really easy to to find, with bold and easily visible signage on the exterior of the building. When you walk into the entry/reception area, you are greeted by a large open concept area with a sprawing bar, with enough counter space and chairs to sit atleast 10 people. The alcohol selection and diversity is downright mind boggling and is sure to please all kinds of palates. I was promptly greeted by the gentleman behind the bar, and was seated in a booth with a food and drink menu. Since I already knew I was ordering from the lunch menu (available 11:30-14:30) i didn't bother looking at the menu much, except for the alcohol menu. It appears that they carry a wide range of wines and spirits, and have an extensive list of whiskeys available. I ordered the chicken shawarma plate, which comes with greek potatos, rice and a shawarma skewer. I opted to get the greek salad for an extra 3$. While I waited for the food, I observed the decor and the general ambiance. Since it is all open concept, it feels like one large room, which ultimately makes it a more welcoming and lively atmosphere. Everything is brand new, appears to be well taken care of and operated with pride and devotion . While it is going for a greek theme, it is also infused with a bit of elevation and class. The marble/stone used on the bar and wall area certainly adds an extra touch of sophistication. The mythological greek themes are also a nice touch. There is also an outdoor balcony area if you wish to be seated outside. Before the main course arrived, I was brough some complementary grilled pita with olive oil and spices, which had a nice crunch but was lacking in flavour. The main dish arrived shortly thereafter. Upon my first glance at the entirety of the dish, I was slightly underwhelmed. The skewer was thin and the potatos had an unusual appearance. Admittedly, I've never had authentic greek food before so I went in with an open mind. The good: - the greek salad was the highlight of the meal. Large pieces of tomato, cucumber, feta and drizzled with some vinaigrette. Very delicious and flavorful. - the potatos were decadent and flavourful. They had a boiled exterior texture while still being dense within. The texture/appearance can be polarizing at first, but definitely worth trying. The bad: - The shawarma skewer was thin but wasn't dry. It was cooked well, but was lacking flavour you would expect from flame charbroiling. - the rice tasted almost identical to minute maid rice, which was unpleasant. The food was good. Was it anything note worthy? Not really. Yet, I'm not knowledgeable enough on the topic of greek cuisine to make a fair judgement on this topic. That being said, due to the excellent service I received from the barman (older gentleman with a man bun) the wide variety of spirits available, the nice welcoming atmosphere and decent food, you can guarantee I'll be back to explore further into their menu.
